Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Terahertz (THz)-wave generation and detection using nonlinear optical wavelength-conversion were developed. Using a MgO-doped LiNbO_3 nonlinear optical crystal, intense THz-wave output over 1kW at peak power has been demonstrated. Additionally, highly sensitive THz-wave detection was obtained by inverse wavelength-conversion from THz wave to near-infrared beam and by the use of sensitive InGaAs based photodetector. The minimum THz-wave detection around 100 aJ/pulse was achieved at room temperature and the dynamic range for THz detection was about 100 dB. Moreover, organic nonlinear optical crystals of BNA and DAST demonstrated wider frequency range up to tens of THz region.
