Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To improve the outage performance of wireless body area network (BAN), relaying by a neighboring node is recommended in the IEEE802.15.6 standard for BAN. This paper studies the outage performance when employing diversity combining at the coordinator or hub node in a BAN to take exploit the spatial diversity. This diversity is obtained when neighboring nodes cooperate and relay the information to the destination node, in effect creating a virtual antenna array. The performance studies are based on extensive on-body multi-link BAN channel measurements carried out for all realistic wearable bio-sensor locations on the body and three different motion scenarios. Performance gains of up to 16 dB at 10% outage probability, and average gain of more than 5.58 dB for any location of the coordinator or hub node is demonstrated. The best coordinator node location based on the outage performance is determined.
