Abstract(in English) An accurate Wi-Fi congestion detection is essential for the wireless access selection between Cellular and Wi-Fi taking the maximum offload of user traffic to Wi-Fi where mobile terminals have both Cellular and Wi-Fi communication modules. However, current Wi-Fi access points have not been implemented to output wireless measurement data and data measured by mobile terminals is not useful for the Wi-Fi congestion detection. In this paper, we propose a Wi-Fi congestion detection method based on probe traffic using Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) that is a basic function of Wi-Fi. Our method sends two kinds of packets at once. One packet is set to the high QoS class and the other one is set to the same QoS class with user traffic. When the delay between the probe packets becomes long at the receiver, our method decides that Wi-Fi condition as congestion. Our experiment results show that the delay between probe packets becomes long just before user traffic reaches the maximum throughput.
