Amplitude and center measurements of sinusoidal dynamic strain using Brillouin gain spectrum model

Abstract(in English) In this report, a method is presented for measuring dynamic strain using a fiber-optic strain sensing system that relies on the strain dependence of the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) frequency shift. By restricting the dynamic strain to be measured to that varying with a period sufficiently shorter than the BGS observation time, the BGS under the strain is modeled and the model is then fitted to the observed BGS. This BGS modeling allows for the measurement of dynamic strain with high frequency using a conventional system. With this method, although the dynamic strain is not measured in real time, information such as maximum strain during the BGS observation time can be obtained. In this report, the sinusoidally varying dynamic strain is obtained, and the method for measuring the amplitude and center of this dynamic strain, by which the maximum strain can be calculate, is described. In addition, the error characteristics of this measurement are clarified through simulations.
