Research on quartz sand fuse for pre-arcing time-current characteristics

抄録(英) This paper is aimed to find an efficient simulation method to accurately simulate pre-arcing characteristics of quartz sand suse. The research can reveal the factors influencing the pre-arcing characteristics, and is helpful to understand its physical process. The results could also provide an important reference to the development and design of fuse, a coupled thermal-electric model of the pre-arcing period of quartz sand fuse is used to simulate the heating proc fuse element by ANSYS via enthalpy formulation. The four phases of temperature rise is well proved. Experiments on fuses of two shapes notches are also operated under different prospective currents. The results of experiments tell that pre-arcing time tend to decrease as the prospective current increases, and the value of truncated current verify the current-limiting characteristics of Quartz Sand Fuse. The error of two kinds of fuses pre-arcing time between simulation and experiment is within 5%, which could prove the validity and applicability of the simulation model and method. The experimental and simulation result of two kinds of notches fuses show that the joule heat and temperature of the trapezoidal notches rise at a faster rate compared to the semi-circular notches element , as well as the pre-arcing time of the trapezoidal notches is shorter.
