Analysing of Limitting Factors in Organic Photovoltaic Devices Using Impedance Spectroscopy

Abstract(in English) For the purpose of effective energy harvesting in room ambient without making human eyes feel dark, wide HOMO-LUMO gap p-type materials, 2,7-Di[biphenyl]benzothieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene (DBPh-BTBT), and C_<60> fullerene was used for fabricating planar organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices. Device parameters, such as the open circuit voltage (V_), have been determined by measuring current density-voltage characteristics. Impedance spectroscopy has been also applied to the samples and the equivalent circuit constants have been extracted assuming that the each layer is regarded as a CR parallel circuit. Then, the dependence of the constants on the applied voltage has been investigated. As a result, the capacitance of the p-doped later, in which F_4TCNQ is doped as an acceptor material, was confirmed to be widely varied by the applied voltage. The reason why the becomes smaller than the energy difference between HOMO of the p-type and LUMO of the n-type materials was discussed based on the flat-band voltage for the p-doped layer.
