A Study on C-band 2.5Gb/s Burst-mode Transmission for TWDM-PON System

Abstract(in English) FSAN/ITU-T is now working to turn NG-PON2 into a standard. TWDM-PON, which stacks four 1OGb/s-class TDM-PON onto a single fiber to realize 40Gb/s capacity with WDM technology, has been identified as the primary solution for NG-P0N2. C-band wavelength is likely to be assigned for upstream, so we have experimentally demonstrated 2.5 Gb/s burst-mode transmission by adopting C-band DFB-LD for upstream of TWDM-PON. Due to apply low-chirp C-band DFB-LD with high-launched power of +3.96 dBm, the low dispersion penalty less than 0.6 dB under the long distance of 50 km was achieved. This indicates that the high-loss budget could be also realized on TWDM-PON with 1:64 split ratio and 40 km reach.
