A Bandwidth Control Design of Reconfigurable Bandpass Filter Using J-Inverter

Abstract(in English) In recent years, mobile terminals have been required to cover wide range of RF frequencies for the enhancement of mobile communication systems that aim at globalization and high capacity. Thus reconfigurable RF circuits for the terminals attract much attention because they are expected to be able to flexibly change many frequency bands under the control of the communication systems. Two-stage reconfigurable bandpass filter (BPF) with eight-frequency (three-bit) selection capability has been proposed for this goal. It consists of two stages of branch-line switched type variable resonators. However, the passband widths show differences among eight frequencies. In this paper, bandwidth variations of the reconfigurable BPFs using J-inverter coupling method with capacitors or inductors are analyzed by calculating external Q and coupling coefficients. The results show that the inductor coupling design enables less variation of the external Q and coupling coefficient, thus can reduce bandwidth deviation of the reconfigurable BPF compared with capacitance coupling.
