Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Optical modulation plays important roles both in digital and analog optical communication systems. Multi-level modulation technologies have been developed for enhancement of spectral efficiency in optical fibers. On the other hand, most of wireless signals which radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems can be applied to, are in digital modulation formats, so that digital technologies would be easily utilized in RoF systems which are often categorized as analog technologies. Combination of digital signal processing and precise optical modulation/demodulation would be important both for digital transmission based on multi-level modulation and for analog signal generation and detection in RoF systems. This report describes impact of optical modulation preciseness on optical transmission systems such as RoF systems. The preciseness of optical modulation can be expressed by chirp parameter which is an index of undesired phase modulation (chirp), and by on-off extinction ratio which shows preciseness of amplitude modulation. We investigated requirements of chirp parameters and extinction ratios for high-performance RoF systems.
