Abstract(in English) | We introduce the crystal and optical properties of BaSi_2, expected as a new material for next-generation high efficiency thin-film solar cells. BaSi_2 epitaxial films on Si(111) substrates have three epitaxial variant rotating by 120°, providing many grain boundaries in the films. However, it turned out that minority-carrier lifetime in a 1.6-μm-thick BaSi_2/Si(111), measured by microwave detected photoconductivity decay (μ-PCD), was approximately 8 μs at room temperature. This value is large enough for BaSi_2 thin-film solar cells. Besides, we succeeded growing a highly-oriented BaSi_2 film on polycrystal Si/glass fabricated by Al-induced crystallization (AIC). This result is a big step toward developing high-efficiency thin-film solar cells on inexpensive glass substrates. |
