Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Electronic Warfare (EW) is a warfare using the electromagnetic spectrum. The EW consists of ES, EA and EP, and changes as time passes. Importance of EW has been increasing as equipments using electromagnetic spectrum increase, along with the development of information communication technology. The major characteristics of EW are as follows. 1. Role of EW has been enlarging from neutralization of equipment using electromagnetic spectrum (offense and defense in physical layer) to the defense in depth, moreover to offense and defense of the information and recognition layer such as confusion of situational awareness, decision and battle process. 2. EW has become important since "Electromagnetic Domain" is added to the battle spaces. 3. EW is persued along with strategic and tactical level operations and battles. 4. EW includes technical and operational surprise attacks. Information related to new EW technology is not disclosed. In order to understand the concept of EW, it is esessential to consider operation aspects as well as technological ones. EW is persued in strategic and tactical level, military and non-military activities such as counter terrorism and humanitarian assistance activities against pirates, operations and battles. In this presentation, I first review the concept and change of EW, then I explain the EW characteristics from battle management and operation.
