Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Photovoltaic technology is becoming a major source of electric power as the annual production of solar panels is exceeding 40GW/yr. Large scale use of renewable energy will soon face a problem of excessive production of electric power because of its fluctuation on weather. It is ideal if we could utilize such excess electricity to convert carbon dioxide (CO_2) to chemical energy which is safe, high in energy density and easy to store, rather than aiming direct conversion of sun light to chemical energy as represented in studies on artificial photosynthesis.
