Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, various kinds of entertainment and information devices are equipped inside a car. However, since their operation becomes more and more complicated, a human-computer interaction (HCI) dedicated to such devices is expected. This paper proposes a gesture interface based on hand-contour compensation and click detection using a single camera that captures the region around a steering wheel. The compensation utilizes motion features and hand tracking information to remove noise in the background. The click detection makes it possible to extract natural click actions precisely by employing dual thresholds of finger length. Experimental results using 108 click actions under various light conditions show that the proposed method can get 80.6% recall and 79.8% precision in average.
