Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Radio-On-Demand Networks (ROD) has been proposed to reduce energy wastefully consumed by access point(AP) in wireless LAN, where a wake-up receiver is installed into each AP. In ROD, each AP transits its state from sleep to active by receiving a wake-up signal from a station (STA). In order to wake-up a minimum number of APs required by STAs, a probability-based wake-up mechanism has been proposed for ROD. However, this mechanism does not adapt the number of active APs to time variation of the number of STAs, which causes a problem that a specific AP is overloaded by connections from STA despite that there are some sleeping APs around the STA. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a mechanism of load balancing for ROD. With the proposed scheme, if a STA finds a candidate AP overloaded, it first attempts to wake-up surrounding APs in sleep state by sending wake-up signals. Furthermore, when an AP finds its state overloaded, it sends re-connection request to STAs so that the associated STAs can send wake-up signals for finding the appropriate APs for load balancing. By computer simulations, we show that the proposed scheme can control the number of active APs and their loads according to the temporal and spatial distribution of STA.
