Abstract(in English) | The goal of Human-Computer Interface (or called Human-Robot interface) research is to provide humans with a new communication channel that allows translating people's intention states via a computer into performing specific actions. This paper presents a novel hands-free control system for controlling the electric wheelchair, which is based on Bio-signals as surface electromyogram signals. The Bioelectric signals are picked up from facial muscles then the Bio-signals are passed through an amplifier and a high pass filter. Motion control commands (Forward, Left, Right, Back and Stop) are classified by simple rule. These commands are used for controlling the electric wheelchair. In this paper we tried the monitoring test for serious disabled people by using the proposed system. A subject has paralysis in the face muscle of right side. Therefore, the proposed system needs to control the electric wheelchair by using the left side of face muscle. However, it is dincult to safety and fine control using the bio-logical signal only. We introduce the semi-automatic control system using the laser range scanner. The motion of electric wheelchair is determined by both the laser range scanner and the motion of face muscle. From the result of monitoring test, the electric wheelchair could be driven safely bypassing the obstacle. And comparing with existed method of surface electromyogram applications, our method also improved the effciency in SN ratio, success rate of the controlling proposed system and response time. |
