Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To economically provide higher bit rate services to users, we previously proposed the Subcarrier Digital Modulation Passive Optical Network (SDM-PON). We first showed that a 16-QAM based system can support up to 16 Optical Network Units (ONUs) lying at the same distances of 10 km in which each ONU constantly sends 1 Gbps using the bias signal sending scheme; ONU generates a positive signal by adding a DC component to a QAM electrical signal, and converts it to optical. To decrease optical launch power in ONU, we then proposed a clipped signal sending scheme in which ONU sends an optical signal generated by clipping negative components of a QAM signal, and showed that the system can support 8 ONUs for the same distances of 10 km, and different distances of 10 km to 20 km. This paper evaluates performances of 16-QAM SDM-PON system that supports up to 16 ONUs for equal distances of 20 km, and different distances of 2 km to 21 km using the clipped signal sending scheme. We also show those of SDM-PON with 24 ONUs for the same distances of 20 km (OLT receives 24 Gbps in total from ONUs).
