Functional Brain Network using Synchronization Likelihood (SL) constructed from EEGs

Abstract(in English) Functional Brain Network (FBN) could visualize the connectivity between brain regions in brain activity associated with thought, cognition, and motor. This study will construct such networks using EEGs (electroencephalograms). For one healthy subject (67-years-old, male and right-handed), 16-ch EEGs was measured when he rest and closed his own eyes. Using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Equivalent Current Dipole source Localization (ECDL), we specified several brain regions (nodes). Next, we quantified the connectivity between nodes using Synchronization Likelihood (SL) and constructed Functional Brain Network (unweighted graph). By comparing this result with the previous studies by fMRI and PET, there were common brain regions, for example, the left superior parietal lobule, the left middle frontal gyrus, the left superior frontal gyrus, thalamus, and the hippocampus. Moreover, from the clustering coefficient and the characteristic path length of the FBN, it followed the global connectivity is strong in the alpha band and the local one strong in the gamma band.
