Prototype of Digital Signage System Taking Account of Learning Continuum

Abstract(in English) In an educational project called "Niche-Learning", Digital Signage (DS) systems installed in public places on university campus (e.g., lounge) had been delivering shot-time digital materials (e.g., video and slideshow) to students. Due to unidirectional delivery and other reasons, however, there had been fewer students who fully viewed a delivered material. From this background, the author's team developed Interactive Niche-Learning (INL) system, which superimposed the students (viewers) on quiz materials (slideshow) and enabled them to answer the quizzes by their body movement. Unfortunately, however, the author's expectation for the developed system was disappointed. This seems to be caused by the situation where the students do not have much time to stay in front of the system (display) and view the delivered material. In this study, therefore, the author is now prototyping the extended INL system that takes account of learning continuum. The prototype system, which equips an RFID reader, aims at enabling students to fully view digital materials within a certain time. For example, after partially viewing a digital material through the prototype system installed in a public place, a student can resume viewing the material through the prototype system installed in another public place.
