Abstract(in English) In the future radio access network, it would be necessary to utilize higher-frequency resources and to densify the network with small cells, in addition to consecutive improvement of spectral efficiency. After the 3GPP workshop for Rel-12 on June 2013, small cell enhancement (SCE) technologies have attracted a lot of attention from companies in 3GPP. Accordingly, various technologies for SCE have been investigated in 3GPP Rel-12 LTE standardization, and a new work item (WI) proposal on SCE was approved in December 2013. In this WI, 256QAM, small cell on/off, small cell discovery and radio interface-based synchronization (RIBS) technologies will be specified. In this paper, we introduce above major technologies for Rel-12 SCE discussed in the SCE study item (SI) and WI, and we also show our proposals for further sophistication of SCE for future deployment.
