Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since the mobile networks are gradually becoming heterogeneous configuration due to the traffic explosion, an importance of cognitive radio technologies is growing. KDDI R&D Labs. and ATR have been jointly engaged in R&D on several cognitive radio technologies. As regards heterogeneous wireless networks, authors have conducted a project to achieve both high reliability and high efficiency by combining multiple wireless networks. Some of the results have been put to practical use. In addition to the heterogeneous networks, frequency sharing issue will become popular in the future. Cognitive radio technologies will play an important role also in this case. Adoption of frequency sharing is to make use of unused radio resources, which are divided in frequency domain, in time domain and in geographical domain. Higher availability of the unused resources of different sizes, assuming a variety of use cases, would lead to the maximum utilization of the radio resources. Therefore KDDI Labs. and ATR are developing "Wideband Non-Contiguous OFDM" that thoroughly gathers unused resources dispersed in frequency domain. This presentation mainly introduces our R&D activities on "Cooperative Heterogeneous Radio Networks for Reliability Improvements" and "Wideband Non-Contiguous OFDM", which are funded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan. Our envisaging future R&D plan is briefly mentioned.
