Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In analyzing synchronization of limit-cycle oscillators, the phase reduction method, with which we can reduce the dimension of an oscillator by defining a variable called the phase, has played a key role. However, such a theoretical framework has not been established for chaotic oscillators. In this report, we propose a definition of the phase for chaotic oscillators by extending the definition for limit-cycle oscillators in a natural way. This definition clearly provides a physical meaning of the phase and justifies the phase reduction of chaotic oscillators. Furthermore, we clarify the relation between the phase response property of an oscillator and covariant Lyapunov vectors.
