Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An Yes/No communication method has been studied for ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) patients with no movement of their bodies. The method uses cerebral blood volume changes measured with near-infrared light. It has been used in the product and the research on its improvement is under progress. Its research version (RV) is deferent from the product version (PV) in using variables such as the vibration number of blood volume change and that of heart rate with the classification algorithm of SVM (Support Vector Machine). We have compared RV with PV by an experiment for 18 subjects (11 healthy ones and 7 ALS patients) for the combination of three tasks. The result has shown that RV has higher accuracy rate by about 10% than PV with 5% significant level by one combination of the three tasks for Yes/No. Also techniques of calibration such as the analysis period optimization of blood volume waves are mentioned through analysis of two case studies.
