Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) According to recent progress of aging population, high attention is focused on preventive care in Japan. It is important to maintain the function of lower limbs for walking ability and the retardation of primary nursing care requirement. Chair physical exercise is one of effective exercises to maintain lower limb function and easily taken by elderly people who lack physical strength. On the other hand, Microsoft Kinect sensor is popular to detect person's motion without putting a sensor on the body. This paper presents the development of a supporting system for chair physical exercise using depth sensor. Based on values of joint positions and angles that Kinect sensor measures, this system recognizes and evaluates user's exercises. This paper also presents experimental results and discussion for two groups of elderly people. The results show the effectiveness of the system and the convenience of the motion acquisition for chair physical exercise.
