Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A driver's break from driving to sleep (rest) is the best choice for completely recovering a decreased arousal level. However, drivers dislike taking a long rest after stopping. This study surveys the recovery effect of a driver's arousal level after a short-term rest of less than 30 minutes. Experiment participants' sleep was controlled for three days before the experiment. At the time of the experiment, the participants had been continuously awake for 20 hours. Experiments monitored driving for 30 minutes in a driving simulator, with three rest time durations: 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes. Comparing the results of arousal level and driving performance before and after the rest, we observed that even a rest time of only 10 minutes can recover the driver's arousal level.
