Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) How often do adults use mental state terms in their daily lives? Female adults were asked about their use of mental state terms, which were on the child mental state language lists, to examine the likelihood of children hearing these words. The frequency of the adults' use of mental state terms was examined in relation to child expressive language data for 4-, 5-, and 6-year-old children. The terms most frequently used by the adults were mastered by children aged 6 significantly more than the less used terms. The adults' use of mental state terms also related to their self-assessment of emotional expressiveness. These implications are discussed in relation to the development of child mental state language.
