Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined whether 9-month-old infants changed their coping behavior with experience of frustrating situation on the visual cliff. Especially, we focused on the change of the social referencing behavior. In the current study, infants were tested in the crossing paradigm twice in two days. On the first day, six out of twenty six infants completely avoided the deep side, but on the second day, they cautiously crossed the deep side. They visually explored the risky drop-off and looked at their mother frequently for information. These results suggested that infants changed their coping behavior on the visual cliff, from emotion-focused coping to problem-focused coping, through their experience of frustrating situation.
