Abstract(in English) | For the further advances in high-performance computers (HPCs), optical interconnects are highly anticipated because of the capability of high-bandwidth-density wirings with low power consumption. In particular, for board-level optical interconnects, optical printed circuit boards (OPCBs) integrated with multimode polymer optical waveguides are expected. For fabricating GI-"circular"-core polymer waveguides, we developed the Mosquito method that utilizes a microdispenser. In the Mosquito method, a liquid-state core monomer is just dispensed also within a "liquid-state" cladding monomer: the needle tip remains inserted into the cladding and circular cores are formed. It is a concern that the core shape and interchannel pitches in parallel cores depend on the outer diameter of the needle, position accuracy of the inserted needle, and the monomer liquid flow due to the needle scans. In this paper, we report that we successfully fabricate GI-circular-core polymer parallel optical waveguides with accurately controlled pitches. Finally, we experimentally demonstrate 11.3 Gbps×12-channel parallel signal transmissions through an obtained GI-core waveguide for the first time to the best of our knowledge. |
