Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Methods for detecting distraction using driver's gaze have been proposed to support safe driving of the vehicle. These methods analyzed the gaze under some particular peripheral vehicular states. However, they empirically defined the traffic situations for analysis so that could not cover various situations. To deal with this problem, we attempted to take the opposite approach that analyzes the peripheral vehicular state during drivers' gaze transition to compare driver's neutral state with distraction state. As a result, the drivers tuned their gaze to a peripheral vehicle to be focused on in the neutral state, but they did not do it in the distraction state. We also tried to discriminate between the neutral and distraction state using the extracted statistical knowledge. Because we dealt with many scenes by targeting gaze transitions from front to other directions, our method could detect distraction with a high frequency.
