Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a simple and effective technique, named extended joint bilateral filter, to improve color quality for images with color degradation by compression. Lossy compression generates image quality degradation caused by quantization error. Chroma components also have degradation not only by quantization but also by sub-sampling in the YCbCr 4:2:0 color format. Our proposed method is a non-linear filtering for chroma while referring to all three components based on a correlation between luma and chroma. As a result, our method achieves both noise reduction and sharpness enhancement for chroma without color bleeding. We show that our method is effective in terms of both objective quality and subjective quality.
