Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In satellite communication systems, non-linear amplifiers are used because of their power efficiency. Thus, it is difficult to apply OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme to satellite communication for improving the data rate due to the large PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). To solve the problem, we consider OFDM/FM (OFDM over Frequency Modulation) scheme for satellite communication systems. In this study, we evaluate QM (Quadrature Modulation) method and Hermitian symmetry method to convert complex OFDM signals to real-valued ones to modulate OFDM signals by FM. Besides, we consider clipping and companding to further limit the amplitude of OFDM signals to efficiently utilize the frequency region. We have performed computer simulation of OFDM/FM system to evaluate BER performances of the systems with the signal conversions and the non-linear transforms. According to the simulation results, 10 dB gain can be achieved by Hermitian symmetry method compared to QM method and also by clipping compared to companding, when the number of useful subcarriers is the same. Thus, we can conclude Hermitian symmetry and clipping are suitable for satellite communication systems using OFDM/FM scheme.
