MFD Controlled Optical Fiber for Fused Taper Type Fan-out Device

Abstract(in English) We investigated fused taper type fan-out devices for multicore fiber (MCF) transmission system. In the fused tapered type fan-out devices, the fan-out fibers were tapered down to small diameter to connect to the MCF. Mode field diameter (MFD) was changed by the tapering because of the change of the core diameter. The mismatch of MFD would cause the connection loss, thus the control of the MFD is important to realize the low loss connection. We fabricated the fan-out fiber which was designed to reduce the MFD change caused by the tapering. We measured the MFD before and after tapering and confirmed that MFD change was small in properly designed fiber.
