Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The traffic of backbone network has been increasing rapidly according to the growth of broadband users in worldwide. In order to overcome the capacity limit of single mode fiber, innovations for not only transmission systems but also optical fibers are essential, few mode fiber (FMF) and multi core fiber (MCF) have recently been investigated activity. In this paper, the recent progress of FMF technologies with multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) system is described. Next, how to design our proposed two mode fibers (TMFs) with low differential modal delay (DMD) is shown with their experimental results. The concluding describes the issues related to realize the practical FMF.
