Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have studied an application of Raman amplification to the existing passive optical networks (PON). We focus on the previously proposed fiber-based hybrid-Raman amplification. In access networks, there are many splice points and connection points. These points may reflect signal waves and may interfere with themselves, which is called a multipath interference (MPI). Generally, the MPI is enhanced by optical amplification. We have investigated the degradation due to MPI both theoretically and experimentally. With the obtained results, we evaluate required reflection coefficients of splices and connectors in the previously proposed PON using hybrid-Raman amplifiers.
