Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Motor behavior can be made more precise and can be extended by utilizing prior experience and objects in the environment. Somatosensory perception, which underlies apparent motor behaviors, also undergoes adaptive changes. In this study, we argued that somatosensory perception is temporospatially adaptable by reporting on two psychophysical phenomena: (1) the optimization of somatosensory time perception based on prior experience (e.g., Bayesian estimation in the temporal order judgment of tactile stimuli); and (2) the extension of somatosensory perception to external objects held by the hands (e.g., experiencing the cutaneous rabbit illusion external to one's body). Furthermore, we introduce our ongoing neurophysiological experiments aimed at elucidating the neural mechanisms underlying such psychophysical phenomena.
