A Second Trip Echo Suppression Method Using Two Kinds of Code Sequence for Radars

Abstract(in English) In pulse radars, if there is strong scatterer beyond the unambiguous range of radars, a second trip echo sometimes contaminates desired signals. To suppress the second trip echo, phase coding of the transmitted signal is commonly employed. The phase coding scheme either spreads the spectrum of the second trip echo in the frequency-domain or identifying the second trip echo from the received signal and filter them, so only the first trip echo can be extracted. However, if the power of the second trip echo is stronger than that of the first trip echo, the first trip echo will be buried in the second trip echo, detection accuracy for the desired first trip echo is degraded as a result. In this paper, we have proposed a new second trip echo suppression method. In the proposed method, the second trip echo is subtracted with two kinds of code sequence from received signal, the first trip echo can be estimated with high accuracy. We have confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method by computer simulations. For example, while the standard error of estimated velocity of the first trip echo in conventional method is exceeded 10 m/s, that in the proposed method is 0.02 m/s.
