Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed a flexible mesh probe for electrocorticography (ECoG), enabling simultaneous microelectrode penetration for single-unit activity and local field potential recording (Toda et al Neuroimage 2011). Using this technique, we recorded multichannel brain-surface field potentials from the macaque anterior inferior temporal (IT) cortex, and compared how basic and subordinate visual category information was decoded with different recording modalities. We also developed minimally invasive surgical protocols for intrasulcal ECoG in the macaques (Matsuo et al Front Syst Neurosci 2011) and examined signal sensitivity in the gyral and sulcal parts of the whole IT cortex. The results indicate the feasibility of the mesh ECoG technique in basic neuroscience as well as next-generation brain-machine interfaces.
