A new array disorder in user authentication by keystroke dynamics

Abstract(in English) Keystroke dynamics-based user authentication research has been recognized as one of potentially valid biometrics. This paper deals with a keystroke dynamics-based user authentication through a middle-size text. A middle-size text here means that neither short text such as password nor long text such as free text. In our research so far, absolute distance-based dissimilarity measure such as Manhattan distance, Euclid distance and so on provides better authentication results. On the other hand, relative distance-based dissimilarity measure such as array disorder, which is seen in many previous researches, does not provide better results. Thus, in order to bridge a gap, this paper proposes a new relative distance-based dissimilarity measure, termed a half-size array disorder. To show our proposal valid, we conduct authentication experiments for four different types of samples by thirty to fifty-one subjects. As a result, such new array disorder provides better results to some extent.
