Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Currently, large amount of data are transferred through the Internet. TCP plays an important role in this data transfer for the reliable data delivery. On the other hand, recent transmission technologies and media access control technologies realize high quality of data transmission in both backbone transport networks and mobile telecommunication networks. Therefore, packet losses detected in TCP level are considered as an indication of network congestion. However, packet losses can be caused by transmission interruptions such as handoffs in the mobile networks and protection switching in the transport networks. These packet losses are bursty because the transmission interruptions continue for tens of mili seconds through several seconds. This paper describes the results of experimental analysis of various TCP versions, several TCP versions in the Linux, that in Mac OS, against bursty packet losses. The result for Mac OS has some problem in retransmitting contiguously lost packets. This paper shows a detailed packet level analysis of TCP behaviors and points out that the key is the retransmission invoked by TCP SACK option.
