Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is widely known that many traffic accidents occur every year not only in Japan but also in the world. Drowsiness or sleepiness, which is the cause of the dozing at the wheel, happens regardless of the physical condition of the driver in time such as after meals or the midnight. It means that to control driver's drowsiness or sleepiness by oneself is too hard. Therefore, various systems have been proposed to prevent traffic accidents caused by the dozing at the wheel. In this study, we examined the relationship between psychological drowsiness during driving, which was evaluated by Japanese version of the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS-J) and physiological parameters extracted from electrooculogram. As results, it was suggested that not only the temporal information of eye-blink, such as duration or an interval, but also the amplitude information of than and the nystagmus frequency were relevant to KSS-J. Furthermore, it could be obtained that 86 ± 11% of accuracy for estimating the existence of strong drowsiness by applying the multiple linear regression analysis using extracted parameters.
