Abstract(in English) We have developed a compact transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) for a 100Gbit/s Ethernet system with a long transmission distance of 40 km over single-mode fiber. The TOSA consists of two electro-absorption modulator integrated distributed feedback laser diode arrays with a wavelength channel spacing of 800 GHz in the 1.3-pm wavelength band and a polarization beam combiner for wavelength multiplexing to realize a high optical output power. As a result, the optical output power was around 2 dB higher than our previous TOSA. We also confirmed that the TOSA successfully achieved an error-free four-lane×25.8 Gbit/s transmission, i.e. a total bit rate of 100 Gbit/s, over 40 km, which shows that the TOSA complies with the requirement for 100GBASE-ER4.
