Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The explosive growth of optical communications networks has led to a demand for large-capacity and low-power nodes with flexible traffic-engineering capabilities for high-level services. We have previously constructed an 8 × 8 hybrid optoelectronic router prototype that effectively combines the strength of optical and electrical technologies, and demonstrated error-free routing of 10 Gbit/s asynchronous arbitrary-length optical packets together with high-level functions such as QoS and multicasting, while achieving low power consumption and low latency. One of the key devices in HOPR is a high-speed N × N wavelength-routing switch operating on a packet-by-packet basis for forwarding incoming optical packets to desired output ports. To increase the date rate of optical packets from 10 Gbit/s to 100 Gbit/s (25-Gbit/s × 4λ), we have recently developed a tunable transmitter that monolithically integrates a parallel-ring-resonator tunable laser (PRR-TL) with an In GaAlAs electro-absorption modulator (EAM). In this paper, we demonstrate error-free, optical packet switching for burst-mode optical packets at 25-Gbit/s using 100 GHz-spaced AWG and a tunable transmitter that monolithically integrates a PRR-TL with an EAM. |
