Step Core Structured Quasi-LP_<21> Mode Converter Based on MMI (Multi Mode Interference) Structure Optical Waveguide

Abstract(in English) Present data traffic is significantly increasing, and spatial MDM (multi-mode multiplexing) is expected to become one of the next generation transmission technologies to catch up such that huge demand for the data traffic. Mode converter is one of the most important devices for MDM. Mode-converter based on MMI (Multi-Mode Interference) waveguide is attractive because of its simple structure and high tolerance. We newly propose simple step-core configuration which could generate transverse mode from fundamental mode in a very simple structure. Simulated results showed that regular 0^ mode has been converted into high order mode of LP_<21> successfully.
