Abstract(in English) To significantly reduce the number of block-matching (BM) processes in block motion estimation (BME) for 8K UHD (Ultra High Definition Television), we have developed an extremely fast BME algorithm that we call a "Picture Frame shaped Search Window (PFSW)" BME algorithm. The algorithm consists of three BM steps: (1) pre-BM for finding the best point from which the second BM step starts, (2) alternate PFSW sub-sampling BM, and (3) cyclic diamond BM. The PFSW algorithm not only improves processing speed of conventional high-speed BME algorithms, but also achieves the same visual quality as that of full search algorithm.
