Research and Development of Dynamic and Reconfigurable M2M Wireless Network Technology

Abstract(in English) Numerous applications for wireless communications are rapidly being developed in recent years, including machine-to-machine (M2M) scenarios. In such circumstances, numerous nodes may generate a variety of application traffic in different required communication quality and data size. Since wireless communication resources are limited, the system may not operate in required quality for all the traffic. Hence advanced wireless networks enabling to support M2M applications are aspired, which achieve efficient spectrum resource utilisation. This talk first overviews major M2M use cases and requirements for wireless networks for M2M applications. Focusing on privately set wireless network, outline of the research and development of dynamic and reconfigurable M2M wireless network is described, which is a currently ongoing project supported by MIC. The project proposes a new wireless communication network supporting M2M applications, which enables autonomous network configuration and optimisation without human operators' effort. The proposed wireless network is designed by taking users' Quality of Experience (QoE) as a key metric for network management so that applications on many terminals can run with sufficient quality even in congested frequency bands such as 2.4 GHz. The fundamental design of the proposed system and evaluation results on improvement in application quality with the proposed system are also shown.
