Noise Floor Estimation Method with Welch FFT for Measurement of Spectrum Usage

Abstract(in English) For spectrum scarcity problem, dynamic spectrum sharing has been investigated. In the dynamic spectrum sharing, new wireless system (Secondary System: SS) can utilize spectrum licensed by existing wireless system (Primary System: PS) while the spectrum is vacant, i.e., WS. In this case, SU is required to know statistics of the spectrum usage by PU such as duty cycle (DC). In this paper, we investigate accurate spectrum measurement technique for evaluating amount of available WS. In the previous work, accurate spectrum measurement method is proposed and it has shown that accurate DC estimation is available. This method can estimate NF and set a proper threshold based on target false alarm probability. On the other hand in the cases DC is more than 50% and/or signal to noise rate (SNR) is around 0dB, they may cause bias in the NF estimation. For this problem, we propose FCME based NF estimation with Welch FFT which can improve the NF estimation performance. Numerical results will show the validity and efficiency of the proposed method.
