Abstract(in English)	Researches and developments of fiber-optic communication systems have been actively conducted in 70's and 80's with a variety of technical challenges. This led the commercial base fiber-optic core systems, and then, access systems (FTTH) and others. Broadband subscription rates in Japan and some developed countries/regions are relatively high. However, rapid penetration of new terminals such as tablets and smart phones will change network services and network itself as well as FTTH. This presentation overviews several issues during researches and developments of several systems in 80's as one of witness, then recent situations around us. Future prospects on FTTH related issues are also presented.
