Traffic Observation System and its Outcome on Snowfall Conditions

Abstract(in English) Public agencies performe traffic observation by fixed cameras and sensors. However, we cannot use these traffic observation data. Since the traffic observation system is so expensive, it is difficult to develop the system in a wide area. In this study we propose the traffic observation system which uses Linux board PC, web-cameras and an image processing. Evaluation of the developed system has shown that the error of this system is 11.3% which is practical enough. We installed this system in the road, and investigated influence caused by snows, etc, for a month, whose result is also reported in this paper.
