Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes 1000-fiber cable with the highest reported fiber density of 5.2 fibers/mm^2 and a cable diameter of 15.5 mm. The measured optical and mechanical characteristics meet the requirements for optical access networks. We also propose a 40-fiber reliable ribbon that halves the total operating time needed for identification, extraction and separation when jointing our proposed 1000-fiber cable compared with the time required when using conventional slotted-rod type 1000-fiber cable assembled from conventional 8-fiber ribbons.
