Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Preference survey by the product development in the food industry is usually conducted by oral recording of the answers to the patterned questions after intake, but it is not an objective and instant method. One of the best methods may be a mood measurement using brain waves. Scalp electroencephalogram (EEG), however, does not only record brain activity but also is contaminated by other electrical sources, like eye blinks and movements, cardiac activities, and line noise. In this paper, we classified the artifacts mixed into EEG in food intake into three components, which were caused by eye blinks, body motion, and masticatory muscular activity. In the case that we utilize the alpha band of EEG for mood analysis, the first and the second artifact components can be removed through a band pass filter because their frequency bands are different from the alpha band but the third artifact component can not be removed. In order to solve the problem, we tried a method using independent component analysis for their removal. We show their results and our future plan for the artifact separation on a practical level.
