Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The values of things can be divided into two aspects: practical aspect and emotional aspect. We hypothesized that the values of gift are also determined by these two aspects. First, participants were asked to recall both the most pleasant gift and unpleasant gift that they have ever received and to answer the reason why they recognize it as pleasant or unpleasant one. We detected seven factors which have impact on those values. We classified 5 of them into emotional aspect and the rest of two into practical aspect. Next, we investigated how those factors effect on those values. As a result, we found that they depend on how intimate giver and recipient are, how high recipient think the gift's price is and how well it matches to his/her taste.
